RAISING THE LITTLE BARR'S

maternity photos!

Charlene6 Comments
I'm officially 32 weeks, 4 days -- chalkboard post coming soon!

We spent this past weekend in South Florida celebrating with family and friends who threw us an amazing baby shower. My sister did such a wonderful job putting everything together and showed off her creative side {or not-so-creative side, as she swears!} Now we know what she's capable of -- so we will always have high expectations of her :) Thank you to everyone who took part in making my/our day so special - I know there were lots of you involved! We are always happy being around family and this weekend was a great excuse to get together and spend quality time :) A shower post is sure to come too!

Fall is certainly inching closer -- it becomes official this Saturday! But that didn't stop me from sitting out back this morning while pup played in the yard. A cool breeze, a playful pup, and a curious butterfly started off my morning right :)

The weekend before last was spent in Tallahassee. Our good friend, Dana, took some beautiful maternity photos for us and we will be hanging one or two in the nursery. Now we'll always be able to remember this special time in our lives as we await the arrival of our precious baby girl.

Being pregnant has been an absolute blessing and we have been so thankful for this joyous time. It's about creating a miracle, and I love having that little miracle growing in my belly. It has not been one of those 'easy, breezy, worry free' pregnancies and more will come on this later, but it has been a blessing every day to wake up and feel our little creation, a piece of both my husband and I, wiggling around in my belly. I am enjoying this time to the fullest until our baby girl gets here and we get to lay our eyes on her and give her all the love we have to give.

"Enjoy your freedom --
Shake the pregnancy blahs
by enjoying your last weeks of pre-baby freedom.
Do all the things you probably won't have time for -
movies, facials, romantic dinners with your mate -
once your little one is here."

Thought this was a great piece of advice I read. I know she will be worth every ounce of lost sleep and exhaustion (because her smiles and coos will make up for all of it), but until then, I will try my hardest to make the most of and enjoy these last couple weeks as just husband and wife!

31 weeks! {& Seminole Football}

Charlene9 Comments
I drew this chalkboard update on Thursday, the day I hit 31 weeks, and I decided to go for a little Seminole theme being that football season has officially begun! As it turned out, we woke up Friday and decided to take a little trip to Tallahassee once J got off work that evening. Spontaneous trips are the best. Let's recall here just so you know how much I enjoy spontaneous activities :) And on top of spontaneous activities, let's recall here just so you know how much we enjoy Tallahassee! So if you were wondering, yes, we had a great weekend!

~~~~
On to the update, then back to the weekend! My preggo brain will have you jumping all around.
Oh, and if you didn't think preggo brain was a real thing...then just hang around me and you'll see that it is. Gosh, have I become ridiculously forgetful and somewhat absent-minded!
And it was a SEMINOLE WIN!
(Actually, make that a Seminole blowout)
Oh, and if you think I look tired here, it's just because the sun was making me all squinty-eyed..I was good to go :)
  • How far along?: 31 weeks, 4 days
  • Baby is the size of a: Pineapple!
  • Total weight gain/loss: +17
  • The Bump: Getting bigger by the moment. I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow so we'll see how it's measuring!
  • Symptoms: Still the crazy heart rate. Doctor says if we can get my hemoglobin levels where they should be (by taking the iron pill), it can calm my heart rate a little. I have higher-than-average pulse while not pregnant, though, so this even higher-than-usual heart rate will probably last throughout pregnancy for me. It certainly alters my daily schedule, though, but I can't really complain since I don't have too much going on.
  • Food Cravings: Well I had some of our favorite Tallahassee cuisine! Mr. Roboto's and Bagel Bagel - you are delicious!!
  • Anything Making Me Queasy or Sick: Between the beta blocker, iron pill, and prenatal vitamins I take, I'm bound to feel queasy at some point each day...but I get by just fine!
  • Sleep: I think I jinxed it last week! I'm back to waking up super early...boooring!
  • What I miss: Well this weekend was a rather different football experience with the whole no drinking thing! A beer or two or three would have been nice, but it's worth it for our baby girl :)
  • Weddings Rings On or Off: On..they were SUPER tight over the weekend..like TOO tight. So I took them off and put on my Grandma's ring which is one size up. But then after relaxing, that ring got a little too loose and I'm back to my rings. I'm sure this process will go on up until delivery!
  • Any Names Picked Out Yet: Yes, actually, this came very easy for us contrary to what everyone told us about picking out names...but you'll just have to wait ;)
  • Gender: Baby Barr is a girl! :)
  • Movement: I think it's so funny when I see my belly completely lopsided and moving around. It actually makes me laugh out loud sometimes watching it..yes I LOL to myself sometimes!
  • Maternity Clothes: Same as last week..I wear a few things but still squeezing into some of my non-maternity clothes.
  • Labor Signs: N/A
  • Best Moment of the Week: Taking some maternity pics to remember the baby girl belly :) Going to Tallahassee and visiting with friends and eating delicious food (let's face it..the real reason we go to Tally!) The walk around the neighborhood tonight with the husband and pup was also wonderful as the weather was gorgeous! And of course, baby jabs/pokes/kicks..even the ones that make me jump!
  • What I’m excited about/looking forward to: Seeing FAMILY and friends and celebrating with them! And then just coming back to wait on baby girl! (AND decorate for FALL! Oh, how I LOVE that time of year!!)
~~~~

Fall is just slightly in the air. It's coming - I know it! And fall is my favoriteeee. Well, one of my many favorites! Crock pot meals are coming, along with great shows, great decorations, a fabulous fall weather feel, pumpkin spiced candles, windows open, and this year -- a baby girl! If you know me, you'll be surprised to hear I have not rummaged through our junk to bust out the fall decorations yet. Recall last September? I started early then! I'll get there :)

~~~~
Visiting with old friends is the best. Especially when you can go months without seeing each other, and sit down at the table with them to pick right back up where we left off -- which is usually somewhere inappropriate that isn't worth sharing on here ;) Dana and Dave are our old drinking buddies that we didn't do much without in Tallahassee. "From beer to breast milk" just may have been the theme of the weekend. We're used to passing beers to each other as each person made their way to the fridge, but this time, there was breast milk passed. What a guy J is to offer to get the breast milk for an ol' pal! Haha...and, well, it quickly reminded us all just how old we are getting. Or rather, how much we are growing up, because I wouldn't quite consider us "old" yet ;) Although we did have talks about water heaters, ceiling fans, and cribs...oh my! Tallahassee days may be a little different now, but it certainly doesn't change how much we love going there!
florida state football home game 2012
Football games are a slightly different experience at nearly 8 months pregnant, but a game is a game..and for that, I was happy to just BE there! Plus, it doesn't hurt to get a little special treatment at the games. Getting front row parking at the stadium and sitting atop the patio overlooking Doak Campbell Stadium with my feet up on the railing was just what I needed to curb that swelling! (Seriously.)
And now we can tell baby girl she made it to a football game before she was even born. Let's hope she get's to enjoy many home games to come with her mommy and daddy and some pretty sweet tailgating!
29 & 30 weeks {Happy Labor Day!}
Charlene2 Comments
Oops...I skipped 29 weeks! Sorry :) I started a chalkboard drawing at around 29 wks, 5 days and then I just rolled on into 30 weeks without a picture in front of it or a post. And, my camera died...sad story! Especially because I left my camera charger down in Florida. Luckily it has lasted me this long, and I go back to Florida soon :) So in the mean time, it's back to the ol' point and shoot. Here's the 29 week chalkboard drawing...certainly not my favorite, but oh well!
29 week pregnancy chalkboard tracker; littlebabygarvin chalkboard inspired
The 29 week mark consisted of an ultrasound, a doctors appointment, crib delivery, nursery set up, and more. I guess it was a pretty big week for us, and perhaps that is why I didn't get around to a chalkboard post. The doctors appointment went well and she suggests the childbirth class offered through the hospital. Hmm...Suggestions?
J finished up another rotation. These things are flying by, huh? Up next: Family Medicine. Here's hoping for lots of learning, great experience, and a (somewhat) decent schedule!
Moving right along..
Happy Labor Day, everyone! We wish our day could be filled with floating down some sort of river, lake, or ocean, with a drink in hand (beer for him, lemonade for me), and hanging with friends or family. But let's be honest, there's not too much of that goin' on in the W, so instead we shopped at Publix, cleaned up around the house and garage, sprayed for all the damn pesky bugs around this house, and now we've got burgers on the grill, corn on the cob cooking, and an artichoke steaming, getting ready to be dipped in delicious lemon garlic butter. Life is a little different when we're not stuck in our college days! We did, however, spend Friday, Saturday, and Sunday indulging in far too much BBQ food (and treats)! So cheers to that!
Check out the mini hamburger cookies I brought to our friends...best part? No baking! Just 2 Nilla Wafers, a Grasshopper cookie in the middle, kept together by yellow and red frosting. Yummy!
30 weeks!
30 week pregnancy chalkboard tracker; littlebabygarvin chalkboard inspired pregnant chalkboard; 30 week baby bump
  • How far along?: 30 weeks, 4 days
  • Baby is the size of a: Cucumber. Average size: 15.2 -16.7 inches, 2.5-3.8 lb. During the ultrasound at 29 weeks, the tech said baby girl was 3 lbs.
  • Total weight gain/loss: +17
  • The Bump: Measuring on track according to the doctor
  • Symptoms: I've been getting some mild back pain when sitting or standing for too long. Must change positions frequently!
  • Food Cravings: None really. Lots of things sound good to me, though! Oh, and you know how much I've loved BLT's throughout the pregnancy? Well, Lay's now makes some BLT potato chips, and yes, we picked up a bag!
  • Anything Making Me Queasy or Sick: People have told me that the iron pills I need to take make you nauseous, and I really haven't noticed as I take them right before bed. BUT, the other night I fell asleep and woke up in the middle of the night to take all my medicine, and I was up for about an hour after that feeling sick. I assume it was the iron pill...?
  • Sleep: Sleep has been pretty decent...hope I'm not jinxing it!
  • What I miss: Really not a whole lot. But our friend suggested we have a post-pregnancy party for me where I indulge in all things on the "no-no list" during pregnancy! (This idea came up during a get together with a Publix sub tray!)
  • Weddings Rings On or Off: On..I may have to switch to just my wedding band soon..but it looks so naked that way!
  • Any Names Picked Out Yet: Yes, actually, this came very easy for us contrary to what everyone told us about picking out names...but you'll just have to wait ;)
  • Gender: Baby Barr is a girl! :)
  • Movement: She has her moments. She is good when I'm sleeping though, which is great! I love her wiggles.
  • Maternity Clothes: Sometimes. Still sporting the non-prego clothes as much as I can. Although the shirt in the chalkboard pic is clearly a bit short! And stripes don't do me very well.
  • Labor Signs: N/A
  • Best Moment of the Week: Getting the nursery together even more, and of course, watching baby girl move around always makes us smile!
  • What I’m excited about/looking forward to: Meeting our baby girl and holding her in our arms in 6 1/2 - 10 weeks. Only 6 1/2 til full-term....that seems crazy to me. I'm also excited about going to Florida in a few weeks to see family and friends for the baby shower!
~~~~

Last week, I busted out the Ninja and made some delicious strawberry daiquiris (virgin!) while putting the nursery together. We also lit the baby scented candle to give her room that oh-so-yummy baby scent! ;) Thanks to the in-laws for both the candle and the daiquiri mixes they left in the freezer :)

Hope everyone has had a wonderful labor day, and that you've celebrated it exactly how you've wanted! {preferably somewhere in the water with a drink in hand or some big ol' bbq!}

{Home Tour} A peek inside our living & dining areas

Charlene12 Comments
"Just know you're not alone, cause I'm gonna make this place your home..."

I was sore, exhausted, and very uncomfortable when I first stepped foot into our new home. A 7+ hour car ride while pregnant is nothing to write home about - especially following the mournful loss of Aunt Kathy. It was 2 days post funeral. Still fresh in my mind and I had just walked into a home in an area I didn't even want to live in in the first place. I'm usually a positive person..but I admit I was all Bah-Hum-Bug that night. That drive was sad to me. I had left South Florida feeling empty - not ready to start somewhere fresh - knowing that when I had arrived in South Florida a few weeks prior, I had Aunt Kathy to go and visit still. But, this is life, this is growing up, this is moving forward.

Still, that doesn't mean I wasn't sad that first night after arriving. Doesn't mean I didn't shed a few tears or anything (although I tried not to).

And then the Olympics started. Sweet, something to look forward to and watch every day for the next 2 weeks. And that women's gymnastics theme song? Oh, I love it! J does too. And it inspired me to get started in making this place {OUR HOME}. Do listen!!

I love that feeling of comfort -- you know, when you don't feel like doing anything else but enjoying the comfort of your own home. Just laying on the couch, enjoying your cozy surroundings. I knew I'd get to that point in this home; I just had to make it our own.

Behold: Our {new} home. For the next 10 months or so, at least!

This trunk/coffee table was given to J's parents as a wedding gift (which I found out after I painted it! But he gave me the okay - promise!) that I lightly sanded and gave a whitewash finish. We both love it as our coffee table.

Uncle Tom said I could pick something from their house --"How about those candlesticks?!" -- Next thing you know, he grabbed a ladder out and got 'em down for me. "Enjoy!" So these are my decorations from my auntie..sitting pretty on our mantle :)

The pitcher is a Goodwill find that I painted. And the teal box was an old Key West cigar box that J was throwing out. I painted and sanded it a little and it's now a home for our coasters.
And this here....this is my cozy spot...we all have to have one!

We may not be completely finished (am I ever?), but we've certainly made our house a home for the most part and we are enjoying our time spent together in it. {Our last 10 weeks together before baby makes her debut!}
